Provenance

O. Ackermann, Paris, by 1908 until at least 1912.[1] Julius Meier-Graefe, Berlin. Oskar Skaller, Berlin, by 1926.[2] François Monod, Paris. Lessing J. Rosenwald [1891-1979], Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, by 1930;[3] gift 1943 to NGA.
[1] The painting was owned by Ackermann according to Klossowski's 1908 Honoré Daumier, and lent by Ackermann to the 1912 exhibition in Saint Petersburg.
[2] Skaller lent the painting to a 1926 exhibition at the Galerie Matthiesen in Berlin.
[3] Rosenwald lent the painting to a 1930 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art.
