Provenance
Cast 1929 for Mrs. Maud Dale [1875-1953], New York;[1] Chester Dale [1883-1962], New York; his estate; bequest 1963 to NGA.
[1] James N. Rosenberg wrote to Mrs. Dale on 10 September 1929, quoting the story of how the original plaster mask came to be made as told to him in a letter from Moïse Kisling, and telling Mrs. Dale that he was "going to have a replica made for you" of the bronze replica of the mask he himself owned. The letter is in NGA curatorial files.
