Barnett Newman

Artist, American, 1905 - 1970

Two bright white strips flank a central, darker cream-white area in this vertical, abstract painting. The bright white strips line the left and right edges. To the left, the white strip is bounded by a stripe of the cream-colored canvas. Then a sliver of the brighter white paint is feathered along the right edge of that bare stripe. The artist signed and dated the lower left corner with white paint, “Barnett Newman 1965.”
