Barnett Newman

Artist, American, 1905 - 1970

A white, almost square canvas is flanked along the left edge by a narrow line of pumpkin orange and to the right with black. The inner edge of the orange stripe is ragged, as if painted freehand. The inner edge of the black stripe is crisp. The artist signed and dated the painting in black in the lower right corner, “Barnett Newman ‘61+64.”
