May 8/86 / Dear Mr. Prang, / In the Prize Exhibition / just ofered (not competeing for / the grand prizes) I have a little / oil painting 14 x 16 entitled / The Enchanted Monarch. / Representing a sorcoress with wand / in her hand and a lion looking / up in her face. The picture is copyrighted; left verso in pen and black ink: I had no idea of published it / only selling it as a picture. / Now it occured to me that / you might see it and think / perhaps I was infringing somewhat / on the Lion in Love [underlined] - so I write / It is not the same in composition / or color although similar in / subject I will not allow / any publication of the same but / I want you to be perfectly satis - / fied of this fact which only / occurred to me the other day. / Yours F.S.
