Press Event: Frédéric Bazille and the Birth of Impressionism

At the press conference for Frédéric Bazille and the Birth of Impressionism on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, remarks were given by Earl A. Powell III, director, National Gallery of Art; His Excellency Gérard Araud, ambassador of France; and exhibition curator Kimberly A. Jones, curator of nineteenth-century French paintings, National Gallery of Art. The Gallery is the last stop on a three-city tour and the only United States venue. On the occasion of the 175th anniversary of Bazille's birth, the exhibition was organized with the Musée Fabre de Montpellier Agglomération (where it was on view from June 25 through October 16, 2016) and the Musée d’Orsay, Paris (on view November 14, 2016, through March 5, 2017).
