Set in 1892, this animated adventure follows 15-year-old Russian aristocrat Sacha as she leaves behind her comfortable Saint Petersburg life in the hopes of tracking down and saving her beloved grandfather, Oloukine, a famous explorer who has gone missing near the North Pole. Sacha has always been fascinated by the exciting life of her grandfather and dreams of becoming an explorer, too. But Sacha’s parents strongly disapprove of her ambitions and, in fact, have already made arrangements for her marriage. Defying her destiny, Sacha flees her home and launches a daring quest toward the Great North in search of Oloukine and his ship. (Rémi Chayé, France/Denmark, 81 minutes)

Recommended for ages 11 and up. Shown in collaboration with the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital.

Film still from Long Way North (Rémi Chayé, 2016)
