Overview: 55 prints by 48 artists, created between January 1959 and December 1961, were chosen from the work of more than 3,000 printmakers. The selections were made by artist Leonard Baskin and by James Thrall Soby of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Organized by the Print Council of America, this was the second of a series of exhibitions that was not continued. The exhibition, supported by grants from the Avalon and Old Dominion Foundations, appeared simultaneously in 7 other museums and subsequently at 2 other venues of 8 museums, in 24 cities altogether. All prints were for sale through the Print Council.
