This exhibition is no longer on view at the National Gallery.

Overview: 65 illustrated books and 158 prints by the same artists, ranging from Edouard Manet to Georges Braque, were arranged by Richard Field. The exhibition documented an artistic revolution that had occurred mainly in France since the turn of the century. Books illustrated by Edouard Manet, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pablo Picasso, Georges Rouault, Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, and Georges Braque were lent from the Rosenwald collection at the Library of Congress. The prints came from Lessing J. Rosenwald's collection housed at Alverthorpe in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. This was the first exhibition of illustrated books at the Gallery.
