Overview: About 150 sculptures, prints, and drawings were selected from the 1,612 items given or promised to the Gallery by more than 50 donors since January 1, 1971. Most of the 1,400 print acquisitions were purchased through the Ailsa Mellon Bruce Fund with the guidance of Christopher White, the Gallery's former curator of prints, and the 150 drawings with the advice of Konrad Oberhuber, former curator of drawings.

Organization: Contributions to the catalogue came from 11 staff members and fellows. Gaillard Ravenel designed the exhibition.
