Overview: 41 paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, and documents, relating to Picasso's Family of Saltimbanques in the Chester Dale collection and to the theme of vagabond performers, marked the centennial of Pablo Picasso's birth.
Organization: The works were assembled by E.A. Carmean Jr., curator of 20th-century art. Research by Ann Hoenigswald of the conservation department detected 2 other circus compositions beneath the surface of Family of Saltimbanques. Gaillard Ravenel and Mark Leithauser designed the exhibition and Gordon Anson designed the lighting.
