THIS EXHIBITION IS NO LONGER ON VIEW AT THE NATIONAL GALLERY.
Overview: 27 playthings made of wood, tin, and iron, most dating from around 1870 to 1910, came from the Shelburne Museum to supplement the large folk art exhibition held at approximately the same time. Works from the Gallery's collection were added, including some 40 related watercolors from the Index of American Design and 24 paintings from the Garbisch collection.
Organization: The exhibition was organized and designed by Gaillard Ravenel and Mark Leithauser. Laurie Weitzenkorn was the coordinator.
