Overview: 115 of Johns' works, spanning over 35 years of his career from 1954 to 1989, were drawn from public and private collections.

Organization: Nan Rosenthal, curator of 20th-century art, and Ruth E. Fine, curator of modern prints and drawings, were the exhibition curators, and Jasper Johns designed the exhibition.

Sponsor: Ford Motor Company supported the exhibition. Additional support was provided by indemnities from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities, and from Her Majesty's Treasury (Great Britain).
