Overview: 123 works of sculpture, 58 drawings, and 2 prints were chosen from the National Gallery of Art and other public and private collections. Included in the show were 2 large-scale works created for outdoor sites, Lipstick (Ascending) on Caterpillar Tracks and Knife Ship I, created in collaboration with Coosje van Bruggen, the artist's wife, and architect Frank Gehry. This was the first exhibition since 1969 to survey the artist's work.

Organization: Curators for the show were Germano Celant, curator of contemporary art at the Solomon Guggenheim Museum, and Marla Prather, associate curator of 20th-century art at the National Gallery.
