Shops Highlight Wyeth and Degas/Cassatt Exhibitions

Washington, DC—The Gallery Shops at the National Gallery of Art celebrate the exhibitions Andrew Wyeth: Looking Out, Looking In and Degas/Cassatt—both on view only at the Gallery—with two exceptional shops located near the exhibition entrances (lobby D, main floor, West Building). Selected exhibition merchandise is also available in the West Building Shop.

In celebration of Andrew Wyeth: Looking Out, Looking In, the Gallery Shops present a collection of books, prints, and accessories related to Wyeth and his works.

Window lace jewelry is inspired by Wyeth's delicate rendering of airy, transparent curtains in many of his paintings. Ethereal in feel and contemporary in finish, this jewelry was made from real lace that was hand dipped numerous times in sterling silver or 14k gold.

Several works from the exhibition are available as 11x14” reproductions, including the inspiration for the exhibition, Wyeth's famous canvas Wind from the Sea (1947).

Young budding artists will love biographer Susan Goldman Rubin's distinctive volume Everybody Paints! The Lives and Art of the Wyeth Family. Rubin shares the fascinating story of N.C., Andrew, and Jamie Wyeth—three generations of American painters. The engaging text traces the events that shaped the Wyeths' art and the ways in which their art, in turn, influenced their lives.

The fully illustrated, 212-page exhibition catalog offers a new approach to Wyeth's work. The authors explore Wyeth's fascination with windows—their formal structure and metaphorical complexity.

In conjunction with the Degas/Cassatt exhibition, the Gallery Shops offer a unique assortment of Parisian-inspired designs, including refined linens made in the north of France, 100% silk scarves, and French artisanal jewelry.

A new French jewelry collection incorporates elegant patterns and design molds created by 200-year-old Parisian workshops during the celebrated jewelry revival of 1900 to 1930.

Fragrant and luxurious French soaps, crafted according to a time-honored French soap tradition, transport you to the beaches of Provence.

A collection of Gallery-designed sun hats will keep you cool and stylish this summer.

A ceramic mug features Cassatt's Maternal Caress (1890–1891) on one side and the artist's assertion on the other: "I have touched with a sense of art some people—they felt the love and the life."

Charming ballet-themed necklaces, pendants, and earrings are the perfect gift for the dancer in your life.

Young art lovers will enjoy Suzette and the Puppy: A Story about Mary Cassatt, Joan Sweeny's book about Cassatt's famous painting Little Girl in a Blue Armchair (1878). Little Suzette's Uncle Edgar is the famous Edgar Degas, who sends an artist (Cassatt) to paint Suzette's picture.

The fully illustrated, 176-page exhibition catalog examines Cassatt's role in shaping Degas's artistic production and in preparing the way for his warm reception in America.

Shoppers may also browse a selection of exhibition-related items in the Gallery's recently unveiled online shop, www.shop.nga.gov.
