Past Press Releases Overview

The Gallery Archives maintains and preserves the record copies of the National Gallery of Art press releases with supplementary materials. The press releases contain rich documentary information about Gallery collections, special exhibitions, buildings, programs, events, and activities.

A complete set of digitized Gallery press releases from 1939–2013 is available online to browse, search, and download. To navigate, expand the decade ranges on the left of this page and then select a year.

Press releases from 2007 to the present with related content, such as checklists, wall texts, biographies, sponsor statements, and the other information, are available from the National Gallery of Art Department of Communications.

To search across all press releases from 1939-2013:

Open the Press Releases Finding Aid for a complete listing of all press release titles from 1939–2013. Press CTRL+F (for PCs) or COMMAND+F (for Macs), type a search term in the text box that appears at the top right of the page and press ENTER/RETURN. Access digital scans of press release titles from your search by navigating to the correct year in the decade ranges on the left of this page.

To search press release titles within a year:
