Ask a Librarian

Reference librarians can attempt to answer specific questions using the resources of the National Gallery of Art Library. Often this will be a referral to sources of information or other institutions, including local public libraries.

Unfortunately we cannot perform open-ended research. We cannot speculate on the value of works or art or make statements about authenticity. For many investigations, general reading and wide looking may be the best approach. If the question is related to a class project, it would be best to include the specific wording of the assignment.

Requests to borrow materials from the National Gallery of Art Library should be sent as interlibrary loan requests through your local library.
