Fund for the International Exchange of Art (FIEA)
America’s National Gallery of Art relies on a unique partnership of public and private corporate support to fulfill its mission to exhibit, interpret, preserve, and enhance the nation’s art collection. As part of that mission, the National Gallery is committed to presenting exhibitions, publications, and conferences that increase public appreciation of great works of art, both from its own collection and from others throughout the world.
The success of special projects aimed at fostering cross-cultural exchange relies on key support from the private sector. This is especially true for the Gallery’s major international exhibitions, which would be all but impossible to mount without significant private support. Over the past two decades, the Gallery has exhibited masterpieces from dozens of international collections, including those of Japan, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Turkey, Egypt, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Russia, Great Britain, France, and Mexico. In addition, works from the Gallery’s collections have traveled, via reciprocal agreements, to national museums in many of these countries.
To further this international exchange, the Fund for the International Exchange of Art seeks to provide a secure resource for special exhibitions and related projects/programs, such as scholarly catalogues, educational brochures, and films. Through an endowment the Fund can foster international dialogue through the organization of major exhibitions and ensure that the knowledge gained is disseminated to a worldwide audience. The purpose of the Fund is to sustain the Gallery in its mission as America’s cultural ambassador by promoting international cooperation at the highest possible level.
The Gallery looks to its closest friends and partners to join in this exciting mission with a major gift to the Fund for the International Exchange of Art. Through their support for the Fund, these leading corporations and citizens will carry on the magnificent tradition of public-spirited philanthropy that has sustained the Gallery since its founding. Those who participate in the Fund will help ensure that America’s National Gallery of Art will continue to reflect—in all its endeavors—an uncompromising standard of excellence.
