An overview of landscape painting through twenty examples ranging from the Renaissance era to the twentieth century. Landscape painting in the European tradition first served as a vehicle for religious symbolism and later as the setting for religion, mythological, literary, and historical subjects. Dutch painters of the seventeenth century were among the first to treat landscape as a subject in its own right, and the subject became increasingly popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Image CD with 20 works of art and brief guide (Slideset version with 20 slides also available)
