High School Summer Institute 2008

Bring it closer to you and then push it away. Cover the shape you've made with a pattern skin and notice how the lines and shadows change. Now try to draw the same object with a pencil on paper. How can you make it seem solid and round?   Image: RiverRun lets you change the shapes and colors of objects in the stream. Click the moving pieces or slide the controllers to change the background, colors, shapes, and speed. How many different colors and shapes you can name? What happens to the colors when you add more black or white to the background? Explore the National Gallery of Art from the inside out

  • Connect with a variety of museum professionals
  • Create your own work of art for a local exhibition
  • Learn and work with other teens from DC schools
  • Earn 20 hours of community service or service learning credits
  • Receive $250 stipend

Weekdays, June 16–June 27, 2008
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

To Be Eligible, You Must Be

  • Interested in studio art or art history
  • Entering grade 10, 11, 12 or be a 2007 graduate of a high school located in the District of Columbia
  • Able to attend all sessions of the program

To Apply

Print out and complete the three-part application form.

Applications must be postmarked by March 28, 2008.

Interviews will take place on April 5 and April 6 at the National Gallery for select candidates.
