School groups are invited to attend a performance of a new play, Who's in the Hopper? An Art Mystery Adventure, written and directed by Mary Hall Surface. Inspired by the iconic paintings of American artist Edward Hopper (1882–1967), the play will explore the concepts of light and shadow through creative storytelling. The performances are taking place in conjunction with the exhibition Edward Hopper, on view in the East Building of the National Gallery of Art from September 16, 2007 through January 21, 2008. The exhibition features works from the 1920s to the 1960s, including such popular images as the paintings Nighthawks (1942) and Automat (1927).

Performances of Who's in the Hopper? An Art Mystery Adventure for school groups will take place on November 14, 15, and 16 at 10:30 a.m. Following the play, school groups will tour the Edward Hopper exhibition independently, using student activity booklets designed to encourage closer looking.
