Polidoro da Caravaggio, The Betrayal of Christ, c. 1524 This drawing is a design for a rock-crystal oval attributed to Valerio Belli. Probably made for Pope Clement VII in 1525, the oval decorated the base of an engraved crystal crucifix. In the image, Judas betrays Christ with a kiss, identifying him for the soldiers of Pontius Pilate. |
