This is another example of rare French ceramics influenced by sixteenth-century European pattern books and prints of Islamic ornament. Compare the ornament on the coil below the bowl of the Saint-Porchaire salt to the interlaced geometric strapwork and vegetal arabesques in the bottom band of Pellegrino's woodcut.
