Virtual Tour with Plug-in

This tour allows you to navigate through panoramas of the exhibition galleries. As you walk through the space, you can select specific paintings for larger image views, close-up details, and more information.

Power Macintosh
If you are a Macintosh user, our virtual tours can be viewed best with either RealSpace Viewer 2.0, or Live Picture Viewer 3.0 with the 4.0 series browsers. You can download Live Picture Viewer 3.0 from our site. We do not recommend upgrading to Live Picture Viewer 3.2 for viewing our tours on a Macintosh. After downloading, double-click the application icon to launch the plug-in. (In order for this plug-in to work, you must close your browser and relaunch it.) Also required: frames-enabled browser; 16" monitor (800 x 600 resolution) or larger; resized browser window to maximum width at 800 x 600 resolution; bandwidth considerations: file sizes vary from approximately 2k to 125k; allocate as much memory to your browser as possible.

Windows 95 or NT 4.0
Download Live Picture Viewer 3.2 from our Web site. After downloading, double-click the application icon to launch the plug-in. (In order for this plug-in to work, you must close your browser and relaunch it.) Also required: Netscape Navigator 3.01 or later version, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 or later version; frames-enabled browser; 16" monitor (800 x 600 resolution) or larger; resized window to maximum width at 800 x 600 resolution; bandwidth considerations: file sizes vary from approximately 2k to 125k; allocate as much memory to your browser as possible.

Audio Segments
Audio segments are from the recording made for the exhibition (© 1997 Acoustiguide Corporation and National Gallery of Art). To listen to the audio files, click on an audio icon when it appears with an object: wav icon for wav format or RealAudio icon for RealAudio format. Narrations are by Earl A. Powell III, director of the National Gallery of Art.

To access the RealAudio segments, you must download RealPlayer from the RealNetworks Web site. Download the version appropriate to the platform you are using (Macintosh or Windows).

Nonplug-in Tour

This tour does not require a plug-in. It offers a static view of the paintings on each exhibition wall. Each painting can be selected for larger image views, close-up details, and more information. Requirements: 800 x 600 resolution and a frames-enabled browser.
