Cameron visited Tennyson at his home on the Isle of Wight several years later and decided, while her husband was away in Ceylon, to purchase two cottages at Freshwater—just down the road from the Tennysons—which she converted into a home for her family. Completed in 1860 and named Dimbola after the family's estates in Ceylon, Cameron created a lively salon there for her artist and poet friends.
