Le Malade Imaginaire by Edouard Vuillard
Edouard Vuillard, Le Malade Imaginaire, decorative panel for the foyer of the Théâtre de Comédie (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées), 1912-1913, distemper on canvas, Société Immobilière du Théâtre des Champs-Elysées

Vuillard also painted scenery backdrops for the theater. These projects forced him to compose on a completely new scale and were instrumental to his future wall-size projects. He used the medium of distemper, which allowed him to develop innovative techniques for his multipanel screens.
