Place Vintimille Edouard Vuillard

Edouard Vuillard, Place Vintimille, 1911, five-panel screen, distemper on paper laid down on canvas, National Gallery of Art, Washington, Gift of Enid A. Haupt 1998.47.1

The Place Vintimille was a favorite subject for Vuillard. This version is unique in format and is one of only three folding screens Vuillard made. Because the image on the screen would be reconfigured each time it was folded, Vuillard planned its composition with great care.

Click on each panel of the screen to see it fold in a variety of ways. You can also print this full-screen image and fold it yourself.
