A Studio in the Batignolles depicts Manet at his easel among many of
the artists and writers who frequented the Café Guerbois. The subjects of
Fantin-Latour's painting are, from left to right, Otto Scholderer, Edouard
Manet (seated), Auguste Renoir, Zacharie Astruc (seated), Emile Zola, Edmond
Maître, Frédéric Bazille, and Claude Monet. This large group portrait was
exhibited in the Salon of 1870.
