Salon des Refusés

An art exhibition held in 1863 for works that had been rejected from the official Paris Salon. Emperor Napoleon III ordered the special exhibition to answer protests over the number of rejected works.

Paintings by Edouard Manet and James McNeill Whistler were among those shown.
