![]() Thomas Moran, after J.M.W.Turner, The Golden Bough, 1862, present location unknown According to family lore, Thomas spent many weeks at the National Gallery, London, ferreted away with original works, teaching himself to paint by copying pictures by Turner. There may be some truth to this, for Moran made several paintings that are direct copies of Turner originals.
