Frederic Remington, Sunset on the Plains,
1905–1906, West Point Museum Collection, United States Military
Academy

experiment with color, Remington remained unsatisfied with the results
of his efforts. It was not until June 1908 that he was able to write
in his diary that he had finally discovered “how to do the
silver sheen of moonlight.”
