The two paintings presented here, fragments of the large Salon composition Incident in a Bullfight, provide a striking example of Manet's methods. The red outline around the two images suggests the original dimensions of the painting when it appeared in the Salon. The top and right edges of The Bullfight are believed to be the edges of the original large canvas, and the left and lower edges of The Dead Toreador seem to be near the original border.(3) | ||||||||||
