Challenge
your friends with this game of the senses
Gather
things around the house or outdoors that you can smell, taste, touch,
and hear. Some suggestions might be: a peach, perfume, honey, cinnamon,
lemon, garlic, aluminum foil, feathers, nickels, flour, sponge, potato
chips, something furry, a leaf, a basket, celery, a ticking watch, a never-opened
jar of peanut butter.

Try
to include:
Something as sweet to the taste as the nectar of the orchid.
Something as fragrant to the smell as the orchid.
Something
as rough to the touch as the bark on the branches.
Something as velvety to the touch as the flower petals.
Something as damp to the touch as the mist.
Try
to avoid:
It's probably best to avoid using messy stuff like ice cream, liquids,
or living creatures!
Put
everything in a big bag. Have your friends close their eyes and
hand them one thing or demonstrate it for them (like the sound made
from opening the jar of peanut butter or eating the potato chips).
See if they can guess what it is by touching, smelling, listening
to, and tasting (if it is meant to be eaten). Show them Heade's
picture of Cattleya Orchid and Three Brazilian Hummingbirds.
Can they match the smell, taste, or feel of any of the objects you
give them with something that appears in the painting?
