First Tony Smith was an architect. Then he became interested in sculpture. He tested his ideas by building cardboard and wood models. One of the first things he made was a six-foot steel cube.

The cube shape eventually expanded to six- and eight-sided blocks that fit together like Legos to make the monumental sculpture Moondog. You can walk under it, through it, and around it. And even though there's no one correct place to view it from, if you look at it from the front, you might see a huge bronze dog, its head and ears flung back like it's howling at the moon. I do.
