Isamu Noguchi was a famous Japanese-American artist who created all kinds of neat stuff, including playgrounds, gardens, bridges, and furniture. He made sculpture with a lot of different materials but he liked sculpting in stone best. Instead of making a work of art about "something," he wanted to show us the universe that he saw in the rock. Because the rock is the art. True, it's one big solid slab of rock, but if you look closely, you will see that it's made up of lots of different shapes, surfaces, edges, and tones. Some areas have been chiseled, drilled, or polished until they shine. Other parts remain rough, unfinished, and wild. Like thoughts.
