Even if you've never seen a real automobile racetrack, you've probably been stuck in traffic during rush hour. Think about how it felt. Drivers probably were honking their horns, revving their engines, and weaving in and out of traffic. Try painting a picture of all that commotion. It can be a realistic scene (with cars, buses, trucks, motor scooters, bikes, and even people on roller blades or walking by), or you can create an abstract picture that gets across the IDEA of traffic--its movement, noise, and energy. Be sure to put roads or sidewalks in your picture, and show how they create a pattern for the traffic to follow. You can represent the street at ground level or from a "birds-eye view" way up in the air. What a complicated and colorful scene it will be! Copyright © 2007 National Gallery of Art |
