The Watercolor Drawings of John White from the British Museum

January 31-February 22, 1965

Overview: 75 watercolor drawings by John White, 28 engravings by Theodor de Bry after White's Indian subjects, and other related drawings were shown. Related books were lent by the Library of Congress. This was the first time the original record of Sir Walter Raleigh's expedition to the New World in 1585-1586, the earliest surviving record of aboriginal life and of the flora and fauna in North America, was allowed to leave the British Museum.

In respect for the memory of Sir Winston Churchill, who died on January 24, 1965, the special opening scheduled for January 30 was canceled.
