Twentieth-Century Masters: The Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection
Overview: 66 European and American works from 1905 to 1970 were shown in this second exhibition from the private collection of Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza. Old master paintings had been shown in 1979. The works were selected by William S. Lieberman of the Metropolitan Museum in New York for the International Exhibitions Foundation's 6-city American tour.
The exhibition was supported by a grant from United Technologies Corporation, by the government of the canton of Ticino, the Ticino Tourist Authority, the Lugano Tourist Office, and an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities.
