Scenes of Daily Life: Genre Prints from the Housebook Master to Rembrandt van Rijn

April 28-August 18, 1996

Overview: A companion exhibition to Jan Steen featured 38 Netherlandish genre prints from the National Gallery's collection, dating from the late 15th to the late 17th century. The show demonstrated that certain themes and motifs remained popular, although the character of the images often adapted to conform to changes in morals, taste, and fashion. Arthur K. Wheelock Jr., curator of northern baroque paintings, was curator of the exhibition.

Location: West Building, Main Floor, Gallery 78
