Thirty-five Years at Crown Point Press

June 8-September 1, 1997

Overview: This exhibition consisted of 122 prints made at Crown Point Press between 1965 and 1997. The artists included John Cage, Chuck Close, Richard Diebenkorn, Helen Frankenthaler, Sol LeWitt, Wayne Thiebaud, and others. The show was selected from the National Gallery's collection and the Crown Point Press Archive at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. In Washington, the exhibition celebrated the Gallery's acquisition of more than 200 etchings and woodcuts from Crown Point Press, including numerous proofs with artists' notations. This was the first exhibition available as a feature on the Gallery's Web site.

The show was organized by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco in association with the National Gallery of Art. Curators were Steven A. Nash, associate director and chief curator, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Karin Breuer, associate curator, Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; and Ruth E. Fine, curator of modern prints and drawings at the National Gallery.
