The Prints of Félix Buhot: Impressions of City and Sea

September 4, 2005–February 20, 2006

Overview: 68 prints, drawings, and watercolors of urban and seaside scenes by 19th-century French artist Félix-Hilaire Buhot were selected from the holdings of the National Gallery of Art. Multiple impressions of several prints were included to demonstrate the artist's process of creating atmospheric effects of rain, snow, and fog.

On October 27 and 29, a "Behind the Scenes" lecture about the artist's experimental printing techniques was given by exhibition curator Gregory Jecmen and paper conservator Marian Dirda.

The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington. Gregory Jecmen, assistant curator of old master prints, was the curator.
