NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART SUMMER LECTURE SERIES “FIVE AFRICAN AMERICAN ARTISTS” BEGINS ON JULY 20

Washington, DC--The National Gallery of Art will present a special summer slide lecture and discussion series, Five African American Artists: Johnson-Tanner-Johnson-Stovall-Thomas. The series will feature lectures on works by Joshua Johnson (born 1763), Henry O. Tanner (1859–1937), William H. Johnson (1901–1970), and Alma Thomas (1891–1978), and a discussion with Washington-based silkscreen artist and printer Lou Stovall, who will join Ruth Fine, curator of special projects in modern art, for a discussion of his own work and his collaborations with other artists, giving visitors a rare opportunity for a question and answer period.
