Washington, DC—The National Gallery of Art will offer audio tours coproduced in association with Acoustiguide for the exhibitions Cézanne in Provence, on view in the West Building January 29 through May 7, 2006; and Dada, on view in the East Building February 19 through May 14, 2006.Beginning February 19, the Gallery will also offer a special discount: visitors who rent an audio tour for Cézanne in Provence will get a same-day discount of $1 off an audio tour for the Dada exhibition.

This major exhibition of 117 of Cézanne’s greatest oil paintings
and watercolors is the first to explore the artist’s complex emotional
engagement with his native Provence through some of his most compelling landscapes,
portraits of friends and family, and works from his monumental series of Bathers.Narrated
by National Gallery of Art director, Earl A. Powell III, the tour includes
commentary by Philip Conisbee, senior curator of European paintings and curator
of French paintings, National Gallery of Art; Joseph Rishel, senior curator
of European painting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art; and Mary Tomkins Lewis,
visiting associate professor of fine arts at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.

More than 40 artists are represented in the first major American museum survey
of this influential avant-garde art movement known as Dada. Narrated by National
Gallery of Art director, Earl A. Powell III, this tour includes commentary
by Leah Dickerman, associate curator of modern and contemporary art, National
Gallery of Art, Washington; Anne Umland, curator, department of painting and
sculpture, The Museum of Modern Art, New York; and archival recordings, including
sound poems, and interviews with dadaists Marcel Duchamp and Richard Huelsenbeck.
Each tour is available for $5.00 on state-of-the-art Acoustiguide 2000 MP3 players at each exhibition entrance.

The National Gallery of Art and its Sculpture Garden are at all times free to the public. They are located on the National Mall between 3rd and 9th Streets at Constitution Avenue NW, and are open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Gallery is closed on December 25 and January 1. Visitors will be asked to present all carried items for inspection upon entering the East and West Buildings. Checkrooms are free of charge and located at each entrance. Luggage and other oversized bags must be presented at the 4th Street entrances to the East or West Building to permit x-ray screening and must be deposited in the checkrooms at those entrances. For the safety of visitors and the works of art, nothing may be carried into the Gallery on a visitor's back. Any bag or other items that cannot be carried reasonably and safely in some other manner must be left in the checkrooms. Items larger than 17 x 26 inches cannot be accepted by the Gallery or its checkrooms.
