1. Le Ballet mecanique

image: Le Ballet mécanique (1924) In conjunction with the Dada exhibition, automated musical instruments, including sixteen programmed grand player pianos, play portions of George Antheil's score for the Fernand Leger film, Le Ballet mecanique (1924), on the mezzanine of the East Building. The installation, activated for a ten-minute performance each weekday at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. as well as Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 p.m., will continue through the close of the exhibition on May 14, 2006. Leger's 16-minute film may be viewed in the exhibition, without sound.

2. Dada Student Guide

The 16-page full-color guide, prepared with the assistance of a high-school student, is available at the entrance to the Dada exhibition and online. 3. Photographic Discoveries: Recent Acquisitions

        Recent Acquisitions In the last few years the National Gallery has significantly expanded its collection of 19th- and 20th-century European and American photographs. Photographic Discoveries: Recent Acquisitions, on view through July 30, 2006, presents some of the finest examples, including 70 works by such celebrated photographers as William Henry Fox Talbot, Eugene Atget, Alfred Stieglitz, Aleksandr Rodchenko, and Brassai. 4. Frans van Mieris' The Little Dog

        Little Dog Frans van Mieris (1635–1681) painted thoughtful yet lighthearted genre scenes. Quacks, peasants, elegantly dressed ladies, soldiers, and pets appear in different combinations, often stressing themes such as love, deceit, vanity, and imitation. Explore Van Mieris' painting The Little Dog to understand the symbolism he used throughout his works. Thirty-four works are on view at the Gallery through May 21.

5. April Film Programs

image: April Film Programs Film programs at the Gallery in April include a retrospective saluting Billy Wilder during his centennial year; four programs on World War I and Dada; and a continuing series of films by Japanese master Mikio Naruse (1905–1969).
