Erich Maria Remarque [1898-1970], Porto Ronco, Ticino, Switzerland, by 1938 to at least 1957.[2] (Sam Salz, New York); purchased October 1960 by Paul [1907-1999] Mellon, Upperville, Virginia; bequest 1999 to NGA, with life interest to Mrs. Mellon; life interest released 2006.
