Sketching Is Seeing

Everyone can draw! Maybe you’re an artist, or maybe you haven’t picked up a pencil in years.

Sketching is a way to look closely and notice details. It can also be a great way to clear your mind. Take a moment, relax, and observe the world around you.

The National Gallery of Art is celebrating sketching this October with a month-long event called Sketching Is Seeing. The Gallery welcomes sketchers of all ages; no experience needed. Pick up sketching materials at any Information Desk and draw what you see. You’ll be surprised what you notice in the galleries, around town, on your commute, at a café, or in a park.

Join us on select dates throughout the month for special sketching activities.
