Celebrate the opening of Oliver Lee Jackson: Recent Paintings with performances and activities for all ages that weave the rich sounds, rhythms, and colors of jazz with visual art:

Special Performances

Soak in live jazz from DC native and saxophonist Herb Scott.

1:00–3:00, Ongoing, Upper Level
Poet and educator Charity Blackwell will perform a selection of her writings and a group poem composed in response to Jackson Pollock’s Number 1, 1950 (Lavender Mist). Find Charity at her poetry station to craft your own short poem.

Experiment with Making, Ongoing
Create a torn-paper collage using color fields like those in the artwork of Oliver Lee Jackson.

Make your mark by contributing to a giant community puzzle.

11:00–4:00, Art Carts
Find our interactive Art Carts in select galleries throughout the East Building. Each cart is staffed by a museum educator and offers hands-on activities for visitors of all ages.
