About La Troupe Zetwal

La Troupe Zetwal is an ensemble with a focus on interpreting Haiti’s cultural heritage through sounds, movements, and storytelling. Since 2001, the group has produced works that share the living traditions of Haiti, stemming from the customs of enslaved individuals hailing from the Kingdom of Dahomey. Led by founders Sherley Davilmar and Linda Pierre-Louis Elysee, the troupe’s main goal is to connect people.

La Troupe Zetwal has become a model whose engagements enlighten and empower, with special impact on the local Haitian American residents of Brooklyn, New York. Over the past five years, the company has brought a number of percussionists, dancers, folk singers, storytellers, artisans, and home cooks together to demonstrate the power of cultural heritage. Most of the performances are mounted in Haiti’s Vodou traditions, a way of energizing and encouraging the preservation of this intangible cultural practice in its various forms.
