Heat, the debut feature narrative by legendary Soviet Ukrainian director Larisa Shepitko, tells the story of Kemal, a 17 year old who goes to work on a state farm during the Virgin Lands campaign and clashes with its authoritarian leader. Based on a short story by young writer Chinghiz Aitmatov, Heat was filmed on location in Kyrgyzstan. (Znoy, Larisa Shepitko, 1962, Russian with English subtitles, 35mm to digital, 75 minutes)
