My Journey through French Cinema

December 17 at 4:00

East Building Auditorium

My Journey through French Cinema is a wide-ranging and subjective roam through the history of French film with director Bertrand Tavernier, whose ardor, expertise, and capacity to recall detail make him an appealing raconteur. “I don’t like the idea of schools of filmmaking, like the New Wave or poetic realism,” Tavernier says. “When you put a label on a film, it prevents you from discovering what makes it unique. All my life I have fought against general statements. I refuse these fights; I want to praise all kinds of film.” (Bertrand Tavernier, 2016, subtitles, 195 minutes)
